Busy, busy, busy!!!

Sorry about the absence this weekend, I just had a busy weekend of having one of my best friends head off to basic training for the Army, and I had a lot of work and school to do.
What you probably have already heard is that the Ducks won the CBI tournament over the weekend and it was all thanks to the half-court line or lack there of. Rumor is that the Ducks might be forced to put in a line for next year.
Spring practice has been going on every other day this past week. Ducks have been having consistent good performers day in and day out with: Boseko Lokombo, Bryan Bennett, Darron Thomas, LaMichael James and Lache Seastrunk. Ducks are off today and are back on the practice field tomorrow.

NCAA Scandals

This spring there has been a lot of controversy and scandals brought up in college football. Duck fans are experiencing a very nerve racking time with NCAA looking in on the payment and mentor status of Willie Lyles.
Other football programs are experiencing similar scandals. Ohio State is going through a scandal for their coach, Jim Tressell, lying about infractions that were committed by their team. SEC is always going through these scandals as well. Four former Auburn players admitted on HBO "Real Sports" that they were being paid by boosters, and how on visits to Ohio State they were offered sexual favors. This is not a surprise to a lot of people. There is a reason why the SEC is so dominant, schools will do anything to have a winning football team. The Lyles scandal that the University of Oregon is going through right now would be a minor violation in the eyes of the SEC, but to many Oregon fans, this is a big violation.
I have heard a lot of people say that "what Oregon is doing is fine because everyone else is doing it"... that doesn't make it alright. I have higher expectations for Oregon and I hope they clean it up and get the job done in the correct way. No more playing in the mud, we learned our lesson. Let's be better than the SEC. Go Ducks!

Thursday Practice

The Ducks finished the last day of padless practice. The Ducks will have pads on starting Saturday. Practice today consisted of trying to find a center, and two classmates of mine: Karrington Armstrong and Hroniss Grasu compete to replace Jordan Holmes. Lache Seastrunk had another stellar day along with fellow backs: Kenjon Barner and LaMichael James. Bryan Bennett again wows practice with his fastball type throws. Ducks are looking to reload this year and not rebuild.

Ducks Win! Ducks Win!

Ducks forced a game three for the CBI tournament finale. Ducks beat Creighton 71-58, forcing a game 3 to be held at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday. "Betta get ya popcorn ready." The Ducks look to put a great ending to a surprisingly successful season. The Ducks current record right now is 20-18. Nobody saw a 20 win season on our hands.

Homecoming Loss for Altman

The Ducks lost the first game of the CBI final tonight at Creighton. Altman received an applause from the Creighton crowd. The Ducks look to bounce back against Creighton on Wednesday at Matthew Knight Arena.

Spring Football

Spring Football starts up on Tuesday of this week. Ducks look to have another stellar spring like they had last year. Oregon is trying to return to a third straight BCS game this upcoming football season. I will post news and updates from the practice as soon as I can. Go Ducks!
Oh also the spring game is going to be dedicated to the women and men who serve our country.

17 innings

The Ducks yesterday played in a 17 inning battle with Wichita State. The Ducks lost by one after a comeback to tie the game in the ninth. The Ducks Won today 6-1, putting a great end to a great series of baseball with Wichita State. The Ducks overall record now is 14-9. The Ducks will now start conference play this week at Arizona State. ASU by the way is a baseball powerhouse so the Ducks better play some great baseball.

Title Game

Oregon will play Creighton in the CBI title. It seems like this title game is fate. Creighton is Dana Altman's school that he coached at last. The CBI tournament isn't taken too seriously considering OSU won it two years ago, but this is a huge step for Oregon though. CBI tournament has really given the Ducks a chance at more game experience and should set up for a more experienced and mature team next year.

Seven in a Row

Ducks Baseball extended their win streak to seven games. Wow... let it never end.

Sunday, March 20, 2011

Extra Innings seals the deal

Oregon beat San Diego State today in extra innings. The Ducks won 6-4 in 10 innings. Ducks are playing real good baseball right now.

Saturday, March 19, 2011

I'm Back

Sorry for the absence. Just got done with Finals week so I hope you understand. What have I missed: Ducks won their CBI opener and will play again on Monday at Matt Arena against the Dukes. Ducks baseball is on a winning streak that was extended to five games today against San Diego State. As for my grades I had a slouchy grade term so I am expecting a 2.6-3.0 GPA this term :'(   I better get back into my books.

CBI tournament

Ducks accepted to play in the CBI tournament. They will play Weber St. on Wednesday at Matthew Knight Arena.

Ducks are .500

Ducks beat BYU at home yesterday at PK Park. The Ducks won 4-2, with the help of Madison Boer's outstanding pitching, as always. The Ducks clinched the series. The second half of the rotation needs to step it up now for the rest of the year.

Streak Ends

Ducks mens basketball lost last night to the Huskies. The loss put an end to the Ducks season. The Ducks were way better than people thought that they were going to be. Ducks were projected to finish last in the Pac-10, but they ended up finishing 7th, before the tournament. Dana Altman has to be the coach of the conference this year, for the fact of winning games with the type of players that he has. It was an exciting tournament this year, and it personally made my season when the Ducks beat UCLA....I hate cry baby Nelson. Thanks for a great season Ducks.

Ducks Win Against BYU

Ducks baseball won against BYU 6-3. Tyler Anderson struck out 12 today. It is good to see that the Ducks are backing their pitching finally lets hope the Ducks take the series this weekend, the Ducks need it. All I have to really say about this game is that Tyler Anderson....YOU'RE A FREAK OF NATURE! That's a good thing btw. Go Ducks!

Brandon Bair

Brandon Bair today at Oregon's pro day was pretty good. Bair was very fluid in his defensive tackle drills, but he was also approached by scouts about being a tight end. Bair later took some drills involving him catching. Bair was recruited as a tight end by Oregon. He was a little rusty but he will get it going. This just gives Bair a little more versatility.

Washington vs. Oregon

Looks like the Oregon Ducks will be taking on Washington Huskies tomorrow at the Staples Center at 8:30pm.

Colt Lyerla

B.J. Kelley

B.J. Kelley is a wide receiver out of Fresno, California. Kelley is 6'2" and 175lbs. He is a homerun threat that is very underrated. I project him to do really well on wide receiver screen passes. Again he is another type of player that could gain a little more weight during the off season. Kelley reminds me of a taller Samie Parker, but not as fast.

Marcus Mariota

Marcus Mariota is a quarterback out of St. Louis High School in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Mariota is 6'4" and 185 lbs. He reminds me of a Dennis Dixon finesse type of player, but he also has the stature of Darron Thomas. When Mariota rolls out he reminds me of Masoli, not in the way that he is going to run someone over, but just his aggressive cutting. Mariota has one heck of an arm. I am really excited about this player. He will be a great player here. Hopefully in the years that he is in the shadows waiting he can gain a little more weight and maybe be able to lower the hat a bit.

Recruit rundown

Keep an eye on my blog to check out my projections of Oregon recruits. I will start it tonight.

Pro Day Results

Pro Day has come to an end and from what I have heard the guys did fairly well. Matthews got to put down some times for scouts today. He ran what he said was a 4.6 40 yard dash. Matthews still could not bench press today because of his shoulder pain. Jeff Maehl also improved on his broad jump to 10' 1". He didn't really have to do too much because he had a very good combine. Spencer Paysinger also seemed to be surprisingly fast in the video that I saw of him and he had really good catching skills as well. He is pretty darn fast.

Singler Does It Again

The Ducks wowed viewers tonight by beating.... check that, by crushing the UCLA Bruins 76-59. E.J. Singler lead the Ducks with a career high 24 points. The Ducks will be taking on the winner of the UW vs. WSU game at 8:30pm tomorrow night. Armstead also played extremely well. Garrett Sim was another notable standout in the game with a buzzer beater three point shot at half-time.

Three is a magic number

Ducks beat ASU last night. FINALLY! The Sun Devils were going for a sweep of three games over the Ducks this year, but Singler and company put an end to that. Singler scored a career high 22 points. He was on fire. The Ducks won 76-69. Next up is UCLA at 6:10pm tonight. The Ducks can definitely win this game. They have played well against UCLA before. All they have to do today is not turn the ball over and finish the game. Go Ducks!

Pro Day

Oregon's pro day is today. Jeff Maehl, Casey Matthews and company will be there. Even Javes Lewis who has decided to leave early will be there.

Jim Tressel

Ohio States head coach Jim Tressel ha been suspended by OSU yesterday for two games for having prior knowledge of violations made by his team. The NCAA is looking into it and will see if there needs to be a harsher punishment.

Cal White Helmet

Zkjjx_mediumCal looks to wear white helmets next year. Personally the facemask needs to be blue but whatever looks good.

Clash of Champions

Clash of the Champions was held at Matt Arena today. The most noteable match was Nadal vs.Federer. Nadal pulled out the victory in the friendly match. I will try to post pics as soon as I am able to. Hope more events like this happen at Matt Arena.

Baseball slump

Oregon baseball has not been going well to say in the least. The Ducks definitely came into the season a bit overrated. Today the Ducks lost to OSU for the fifth straight time. Let's hope coach Horton gets the team together so the season can be manageable before league games start counting. I feel like the ducks are missing a big player like they had last year with Rodriguez... Maybe the Ducks just need...a player like Tom Selleck in Mr. Baseball. That's a great movie by the way.

Randall and Simmons

Jerrard Randall seems to actually not be going to the U of O because the university requires certain academic standards that Randall does not qualify for. Good news that has come today was that Delvon Simmons, one of the top defensive end prospects, is considering leaving North Carolina and go to Oregon. This is after he stiffed the Ducks about a month ago by committing to North Carolina. Simmons wants to leave because of staff changes. I think the Ducks will be more than happy to take him. Go Ducks!

Jerrard Randall

Jerrard Randall has finally passed his ACTs and now is eligible for Oregon. He intends to keep his commitment to Oregon. This is great news considering all of the recent recruiting trouble. Go Ducks!

Recruiting Scandal

Right now, as you have probably heard, the Ducks are in a recruiting controversy for using a recruiting service of Willie Lyles. Lyles is a "sketchy" guy who most teams stay away from. The Ducks paid him $25,000 for recruiting service. The NCAA is investigating why the payment was so high, and what the Ducks could have possibly gotten for that. Another fishy thing was that Lyles' website has packages to purchase and there wasn't a $25,000 package until late Friday. I hope the Ducks didn't do anything wrong. NCAA is also looking into Seastrunk's relationship with Lyles. Many SEC reporters and talk show hosts have said that this is being blown out of the water, and that a lot of schools in the south are doing the same thing. This doesn't make it okay for what Oregon did, and it is good to see that people around the U of O really do care and have higher expectations for the Ducks. So hopefully this investigation will bring nothing bad, or if it does hopefully something minor so the Ducks can learn from it. Go Ducks!

Another uniform

Oregon vs. Arizona
Oregon against Arizona this week busted out another uniform. An away gray uniform. I like it, but let's slow up on all the uniforms. Anyway the Ducks played crappy against ASU, but on Saturday put up a real good fight and barely lost. In the tournament the Ducks will get another chance at ASU once again. Let's hope Dana Altman gets the team going again.

Number changes

Darron Thomas has changed his number to #5 and Josh Huff changed his number to #1. Josh huff will no longer look like JWill anymore thank god. Thomas has decided on going to #5 because that was his high-school number. There are some other players that switched as well. follow the link.  http://www.goducks.com/SportSelect.dbml?SPSID=3378&SPID=233&DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=500&SORT_ORDER=1&Q_SEASON=2011&PRINTABLE_PAGE=

Maehl Breaks Combine Record

Maehl broke the three cone drill combine record Sunday. Helping him establish himself, especially since he is not all that fast. Maehl looks to be a late draft pick. I believe he will go round 6. Scouts at the combine really like Maehl for his smooth route running and how he catches everything. Let's hope the Maehl man goes far.
In other combine news, Oregon States' Stephen Paea broke the combine bench record with 49 reps of 225. The guy that held the previous record played 4 years in the NFL, so hopefully Paea does better with this record.

12 K's

A left-handed sophomore Christian Jones struckout 12 in Sunday's game against the Gaels. The Ducks won 3-2. I just realized that Jones happens to sit in front of me in my math class. Who'd of thunk it?
Oregon's next game is on Tuesday night against the Portland Pilots in a one game series.

Combine

Jeff Maehl is at the combine today. All I have for news right now is that Jeff Maehl ran a 4.62  40 yard dash. Jaquizz Rodgers came into the combine at 5 foot 6 inches and he had to run an impressive 40 yard dash... and he failed. He ran a 4.64, the Maehl man came through in the clutch. Let's hope Maehl and other Ducks impress at the combine.

Stanford Game

Ducks lost a tough one yesterday. Stanford controlled the game all the way through. Stanford shot the ball very well and played lights out defense on Catron and Singler. Some uniform news is that Oregon brought out gray uniforms yesterday. Gotta say I really liked the look of them.

Shutout

Oregon Ducks shut out the Gaels Saturday with the help of Madison Boer. Ducks won 3-0. Again Boer pitched lights out. Look for him to win Pac-10 pitcher of the week for the second week in a row.

Ducks Late Game Collapse

Again the Ducks let the game slip away. The Ducks had control of the game tonight through eight innings until a late comeback gave St. Mary's the win 3-2 over the Ducks in the home debut. Tyler Anderson has yet to get a win on the season. The Ducks are playing mediocre baseball right now and the bullpen sure isn't helping them out.

KC Serna

KC Serna is still suspended for this weekend series against St. Mary's.

First Home Game

Ducks will be playing their first home game of the season tonight at 5 pm at PK Park against St. Mary's. Look for Tyler Anderson to dominate. Ducks win 5-0.

Bears comeback

The ducks again lost to cal last night. I do not know why the ducks just can't beat cal. Oregon shot themselves in the foot too many times by turning the ball over. The ducks blew a 16 point lead. Give credit to cal's three point shooting and 2-3 zone on defense. Oregon's Nared played really well with some great put backs. Carton on the other hand looked lazy but the Ducks will pull it together against Stanford on Saturday.

Home Sweet Home

Oregon Ducks baseball is coming home. The Ducks will be playing a series against St. Mary's starting Friday at 5:00 pm at PK Park. It's a three game series with St. Mary's. The Ducks will follow this series with one game against the Portland Pilots on Tuesday, March 5th at 5:00 pm at PK Park.

Split in Hawai'i

Ducks pulled out another win last night. Winning 4-3. Starting pitcher Alex Keudell pitched five innings for the win. Star of the game was Aaron Jones who went 2-5 and hit a home-run. The series is over. The Ducks split with Hawai'i. Going into the series, the Ducks were ranked #14, but now they are ranked #15. There is a lot to look forward to for this season. The Ducks are going to be a very good and consistent team. Go Ducks!

Movin' On Up

Oregon Men's Basketball this weekend blew out the pathetic Beavers. The Beavers could not drive on the Ducks to save their lives; that's especially sad to see when the Ducks don't really have a dominant big guy down low. Ducks were popping threes all night. The top players for the Ducks were Jay-R Strowbridge, and Malcolm Armstead. Ducks have improved to fourth place in the Pac-10....Wow! Hell yeah Ducks, keep up the great work. Dana Altman should be coach of the year by a long shot.

Series in Hawai'i

Ducks got their first win of the season yesterday against Hawai'i. This is after giving up the lead two nights in a row. Madison Boer threw a one-hitter;he was later pulled and Kellen Moen came in for relief. The Ducks bats were also in a groove. The Ducks won 4-0. They are now 1-2 on the season. Let's see if the Ducks can even the series tonight.

Gray Glove Rule Is Out

The NCAA has taken out the rule for college teams to wear only gray gloves. This is going to open the doors even more for the Ducks. Now the Ducks can have team colored gloves... Go Crazy Folks. Ducks are going to  look even more in style this fall than usual.

Schedule Update

Oregon officially added Missouri State to the 2011 schedule. A little depressing, but at least they have LSU on the schedule. MSU game is scheduled for September 17th at Autzen Stadium.

Breaking News

Dontae Williams has left Oregon. Considering the lack of roster openings for him. It seems to be a smart decision. With the big recruit of Deanthony Thomas, and Tra Carson coming in, it seemed bleak for him to get some playing time. There is also a rumor that two other offensive players are leaving too. Probably due to the same reason as Dontae Williams. This breaking news was notified to me by Scott McCann.

East Coast Bias

Today ESPN.com posted an article about the Big 12 not having a conference championship game anymore... and also losing two teams. This should hurt the Big 12 tremendously, but with all the east coast bias in college football, those teams probably will be able to get by without any harm. I have heard talks about the Pac 12 championship game and the talks have sounded like people don't respect the west coast still. People have said that Oregon has to run the table to go the national title again. I disagree. I believe that if the Ducks lose to LSU early in the season it is alright. All that matters is to win the conference title game and have one loss or less. That's the whole purpose of the conference title game; to give the strength to a teams schedule. The Pac 10 round robin play, where everybody plays everybody, was a perfect conference set up. The Pac 10 though has to "modify" in order to have a chance at contending for a national title every year; thanks east coast bias. So what do they do? Well add two more teams and have a conference title game. What does the east coast think of that? The east coast still won't give credit to the west. I'm tired of all this bullcrap. No matter what the Pac 12 does, it will never be good enough. Let's just face it. If the Ducks would've won the title last year, SEC would have made some god dang excuse. I hope the top teams in the Pac 12 play the SEC top teams one year just to show that "hey we can play some football out here too." I think teams like Stanford, USC, and Oregon have shown that they can compete with any team on any day. Remember that undersized Oregon team that had the courage to play the big boy Auburn team? Yeah, Auburn was bigger, but if I remember correctly that was one hell of a game. So it just goes to prove that out here on the west...we can play too.

Spring Practice

Spring Football is almost here! I will try to attend all of the practices that are open to the public this year. So I will have analysis of the practices here. Well not too much because I don't want to give away any secrets haha ;)
I will also be attending the Spring game that is set for April 30th. Should be a very fun spring. GO DUCKS!

Road To Omaha

The road to Omaha starts on Friday. The Oregon Ducks will be taking on the Hawai'i Warriors in Honolulu, Hawai'i at 8:30 pm pacific time. Look for the Ducks to do what they do best... manufacturing runs. A whole lot of singles and some doubles; and if the Ducks are lucky maybe a homerun thrown in there. I believe the Ducks can pull a win out because Tyler Anderson is getting the start; and we all know how dominant Anderson can be.
My prediction: Oregon 4 Hawai'i 2
Again as I posted earlier, K.C. Serna is suspended for the series; due to violation of team rules. Keep watching the blog for more baseball news and analysis.

Basketball Uniforms

The new, classy, simplistic uniforms that the Ducks are wearing are refreshing. The Uniforms are an homage to Ernie Kent's elite eight team with: Freddy Jones, Luke Ridinour, Luke Jackson. The only complaint that I would have about these uniforms would be the lack of the yellow alternate home jersey. I have grown so accustomed to the Ducks wearing yellow at home, kind of how the Lakers do. But if the yellow jerseys do not come, it's no big deal because I would take these uniforms in an instant.

Uniforms

I know I know we are 200 days away from the Cowboy Classic, Oregon vs. LSU; but I have to make some sort of prediction. It's nothing to do with the actual game but I am predicting Pro Combat uniforms for the Ducks. Probably not going to happen, but that's alright.
The next set of uniforms should come after this season, we might even see a sneak preview in the civil war game this year. Look for the uniforms to be even classier than the ones that are currently being worn. Ducks might even go with a simplest look that the basketball team is wearing. I hope their will be more green and yellow involved. Hey maybe even a decent yellow helmet can be used. Let's cross our fingers anyways, but we don't have to worry about that for a while.
Go Ducks!

More schedule news

We are 200 days away from the LSU game in Dallas,Texas. In other news the Ducks haven't admitted to having Missouri State on their schedule. I hope they don't because Ducks are already playing Nevada. So hopefully a more decent team will be put on the schedule. In my guess, Oregon will end up playing Missouri State because Missouri State already has it on their schedule.

Jeff Maehl

Let's hope that Jeff will be able to have a career in the NFL. Here are some of his great highlights in 2010-2011

Jeff Maehl 2010 Highlights

Football Schedule

The Oregon-Cal football game has been selected to be on ESPN. The game is set to play at 6 pm on October 6th at Autzen Stadium.

Upcoming Events

Soon to take place is the Civil War at Matthew Knight Arena on Saturday, February 20th for the men's basketball team. The Ducks look to keep the magic going against the hated Beavers this weekend. Seems to be another great game just like the one in Corvallis.
In other news, the baseball team is getting ready to start off the season against Hawai'i on Friday, February 18th. Shortstop K.C. Serna will be suspended for that series for violating team rules.
Hope this weekend brings a series win for the baseball team and a clean sweep for the basketball team.
Go Ducks!

Welcome to Oregon Sports

I am Zach and I am starting up a new blog. That is everything Oregon Ducks. It will cover all news for football, basketball and baseball.
